One of my first attempts at writing a truly long-form work. It’s a Harry Potter fanfic in which, at the very beginning of his fifth year at Hogwarts, the body of Harry Potter becomes inhabited by none other than „MI-6” super-agent James Bond. The title is a reference to the Bond novel You Only Live Twice and the movie of the same name.
Plot:
James Bond (whom I imagined as looking like Pierce Brosnan), having no memories of Harry Potter’s life, must learn about the wizarding world from scratch while trapped in the body of a schoolboy. Faithful to his oath, he reports the existence of magic, wizards, witches, and other beings hidden from the public to „MI-6” — to his superior, M (Judi Dench) — and barely manages to convince them that his soul really has ended up in someone else’s body. M, her secretary Moneypenny (Samantha Bond), Bond’s friend Bill Tanner (Rory Kinnear), the head of technical department Q (Desmond Llewelyn), his deputy R (John Cleese), and computer technician S (Ben Whishaw) gather a wealth of information, verify its authenticity, and begin working on ways to protect the citizens of the United Kingdom from the dangers associated with magic and the recently resurrected Voldemort.
As the story unfolds, Voldemort frees his followers from Azkaban, British intelligence agents storm the underground complex of the Ministry of Magic, James Bond learns to play Quidditch, delves into the intricacies of the wizarding economy, discovers the existence of Horcruxes, and prepares to repel a Death Eater assault on Hogwarts.
The work is still unfinished, though it’s already approaching its finale. In length, it has surpassed Anna Karenina and is closing in on War and Peace. The text (in Russian) is so big that the server where I publish this work can’t cope with it in one file, and I have to split it into several HTML files.
